Bentley roof extension

More space for passengers

The concept

The passenger compartment was extended for a new Bentley concept car. The vehicle was extended to the rear from the B-pillar to provide passengers with a comfortable, more spacious ride. A second B-pillar was inserted so that the original door length was retained. The roof of the vehicle had to be completely redesigned.

The planning and construction

We carried out the roof extension. First, the new roof skin was designed in CAD programs. On this basis, we were able to develop and produce our production models. The roof was extended by combine two existing roofs. In addition, new metal sheets had to be produced and inserted on the side rails of the roof.

The production

A frame model was made before the roof was manufactured. This served as a production template for the entire roof. The frame model was supplemented by hamering forms made from model making plastic, which were embedded in the frame model. The two existing roofs were cut accordingly and welded together to create a longer roof. With the help of the forms, we were able to make new side rails. These were then welded into the extended roof.

Flawless surface

In the final step, the roof was perfectly aligned. This meant that no filler was required for the subsequent paint job and the vehicle was able to impress with a flawless surface finish.
