Subway station Am Moosfeld

Under the streets of Munich

Under Munich's Moosfeld

The Moosfeld subway station was opened in 1999 and takes its name from its surroundings. The eye-catcher of the subway station is the light installation and the simple design with a horizontal bend in the concrete wall. The kink has its origins in the sloping concrete pillars, which could not be anchored vertically in the ground for space reasons. The impressive light installation was created by renowned designer Ingo Maurer and gives the station a unique aesthetic.

80 sails in Moosfeld

We manufactured 80 light sails for this project. These light sails consist of precisely manufactured steel luminaire ribs onto which two shells were mounted. The inner shell consists of pre-pressed stainless steel sheets that were riveted onto an outer steel shell. We purchased a total of 1000 pressed parts for this project.

Riveted and welded

First, the individual parts of the luminaire frame were welded together. The frame could then be placed in a jig in which the steel sheets were first welded to the frame. The stainless steel sheets were then riveted onto the steel sheets.

Fog for the look

The outer skeleton including the outer shell was painted. The mirror-like inner shells were painted green. This combination of materials and colors contributes significantly to the unique aesthetics of the subway station.
